  1. Hi -

I am trying to convert AVI to MPG. I have tried two different ways and come up with the same results each time. The finished MPG file is more than double the size of the origanl AVI file. The 238Meg AVI file shot up to 607Meg's in size after the convertion. This is what I have tried:

    1) run the avi through virtual dub and save wav file. Then reencode/convert the avi/wav file to mpg in TMPGenc.

    2) Just load the avi into TMPGenc (no de-multiplexing) and let TMPGenc re-code it into mpg.

Again, both attemps make the final mpg HUGE !! I have tried with both MPG1 and MPG2.

    Here is the video info:
    Frame Size 512x272, 25.00 fps
    Decompressor DivX 5.0.1

    Please help !
    John

  2. That means that the AVI Divx file is more compressed than the mpeg file. This is quite normal, mpeg-2 needs quite a high bit rate to give good quality video.

  3. this may seem simplistic, but ,i had the same problem and solved it by setting the end frame after moving the slider to the end frame position, then setting the encode to stop at that frame, in other words stopping the encoding as soon as the film as ended automatically. i am just learning but this kept the file size reasonable for me. hope this helps
