  1. i have been trying to make a good quality VCD for more than a month now.. but always end up with videos that are problematic which include BLOCKS all over..

can anyone enlighten me as to what VCD settings i should tweak, consider to produce good quality VCD .. good quality, meaning getting rid of the BLOCKS...

i capture my video using a firewire card from my SONY DCRPC110.. do some editing with VEGAS VIDEO and render it using VV3's default template (or should i render my video using the highest template settings?) and encode my video using TMPGENC where i think the key to my problem lies....

thank you very much for all of your future help

Use the templates under the Load option in TMPGEnc. If they give you inferior results, try Kwag's templates www.kwag.net

  3. You cannot get rid of all the blocks in a VCD. The bit rate is to low for that. You will always have to live with some blockiness in a VCD.
To get block-free video, you need to increase the bit rate to 2.5Mb/sec or so, over twice the bit rate of VCD.

To minimize the blockiness, make sure the video source is noise free, and use a noise reduction filter to reduce noise. Tmpenc has a good noise reduction filter. Set it at 100% for VHS video tape.
