  4. To troyvcd1: the error you describe sounds like you're using Virtual Dub 1.4.10, uninstall it and use Virtual Dub 1.4.9 instead... you can goto the Virtual Dub homepage and read about the missing file

To max2: Step 11 and 12 is a bit confusing. Basically what it's doing is converting film 23.97 fps to the standard SVCD rate of 29.97 NTSC rate. Pulldown just adds tags to repeat certain frames to get the desired frame rate without having to waste bits to actually encode them.

To max2 and troyvcd1: If you haven't noticed the guide is fairly old and in my opinion not the easiest to follow. If you haven't tried already I suggest you download the program DVD2SVCD and give it a try. Despite the name it can convert from AVI as long as you go into the "MISC" tab and change the input file to "AVI" first. I find DVD2SVCD basically takes care of the hard stuff to understand like (pulldown, muxing, etc) all you do is set it and hit go. Give it a try.

  5. LeeBear is it ok if my .avi file is 25 fps ? Will it work the same way the guide for DVD2SVCD. Also what if i start to get jumping in the mpeg2 file i coverted to from the .avi file ? It jumps btw on the dvd player i play it in and my computer just to let you know. Does DVD2SVCD cut the .avi file ?

I am getting this error with DVD2SVCD after a while '' is not a valid floating point value

    What does this mean?

Thanks Leebear. I read about the problems with virtualdub 1.10. I tried dvd2svcd program and it is impossible. It is even more confusing then using virtualdub. Plus it says I need to download some files from some website that is impossible to access. I am still trying to go the virtual dub route. The problem I am having now is I start the frameserver just fine. When I try to add the .vdr file into CCE nothing happens. I see no file getting loaded into CCE and it is as if nothing happens. I can load a .avi file into CCE but I can not load a .vdr file. Am I missing something here????.

  7. troyvcd1: Are you using a version of CCE higher then 2.50 like 2.62? If you are that's the problem why you can't load the .vdr file. They removed VDR file support in version higher then 2.50 but I believe they've put suppot back in on the very lastest version 2.64.10. Anyways the guide on the site was written for version 2.50 of CCE. I had the same problem whiling trying to follow the guide.

max2: Regarding your floating point error in DVD2SVCD I have no idea, I've never encountered that problem before. The only suggest I have that might fix the problem is in the "encoder" tab you may want to check "safe mode (frameserving)"

Your other questions about DVD2SVCD, yes it does cut the AVI file if it takes up more then 1 CD (well it doesn't cut the original AVI just the converted MPEG =). Your next question regarding will the guide work with 25 fps avi... it should. I don't know if you're using NTSC or PAL as your final output. If it's PAL then the frame rate matches so you won't have any problems. If your final output is going to be NTSC (29.97fps) then you're going to have to do some sort of framerate conversion/deinterlacing. I suspect the reason why the Mpeg2 file jumps when you play it back on your DVD player or computer is because of the frame rate difference. I'm sorry I don't have much experience with PAL to NTSC conversion since all my sources have been NTSC or Film. Maybe someone else can give you some help on that...
