Does your DVD player play "CDR" VCD ?
Maxell discs are fine, but if you DVD player does not play cdr, then you have no chance

Are you making the mpeg 1's in TMPGEnc, and loading a PAL/NTSC template

I use Fuji's in my Apex 1100w. On my second attempt at making a VCD
I loaded it up and got the "No Disc"message. I ejected the disk, turned
it just a little with my finger and loaded it up again. This time it worked.
Why, I do not know. Maybe something about where it starts to look for data?

I know I know. I have done this before with music CD's. I do not remember
where I heard of doing this but it worked.

I just tried my 2nd VCD again today and I had to eject it/insert it
to get it to load properly. My first VCD works great! I don't know why
my 2nd one doesn't work as well. Everything was done "By the book"
    to make it.

If you have trouble in the future just try it. It works for me most of the time.

in my experience, if the set top will play cd-r, it will play ANY cd-r. this is obviously not true with dvd-r media, but I always buy the 30 cent cd-r and they work great in both my players.

If you like the 30 cent discs you'll love these!

    100 discs for $16.00, that's 16 cents each!

Ejecting the disk and putting it back in, may fix a bad read error, but moving it wont have any effect at all

Ok, so you made a mpeg 1 with TMPGEnc and loaded a VCD template. Then you dropped it into Nero !, Nero should not be used for any conversion, always use TMPGEnc to make the mpegs.

Only thing left is the quality of the disks, you need to try a higher quality one
