  1. also when i change avi into vcd the finish is very blocky whould it make a difference if i downloaded divx files and changed them insted to vcd? also is divx an extension or is it a name e.g myfilm.divx or myfilm(divx).avi any help appreciated also is divx a file extension or just a name

  2. there is no difference between an avi and a divx, so therefore, they are both going to be the same quality. That is my opinion, there may be a distinction between them, i'm not sure.

  3. Folks, a little bit of clarification.
    A DIVX file is a type of AVI file that is encoded using the DIVX codec.
    There are many different types of codecs that can be used for AVI files which mainly differ in how much compression is applied to the output. DIVX applies heaps of compression resulting in relatively small file sizes.
    If you intend converting into VCD compatible mpegs, according to many posts I've seen on this site, you're likely to find DIVX encoded AVIs a bit of a pain as they are often non-standard and use varying audio and video codecs.
    If doing your own VCDs from your own captures, you'll get better results capturing to either a YUY2 type (HUFFYUV, I think ) or MJPEG type ( PicVideo ) codec and encoding from those.
