Evening all.
RE: ESC K7S5A - and Lost CD-ROM access
Every time I put a CD in either my DVD-ROM or CD-ROM, no files show up
in explorer, and I also get the Retry / Cancel buttons
I can't even try to re-install the drivers on the CD because I have no
access to the CD-ROMs. Now, during my system booting up, I can see
it senses and finds the CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives, but once Windows 98
is up and running, I have no access - they don't exist.
I'm not sure how this happend. I thought, at first, that maybe I made the
mistake and startup up a driver app (after D/L'ing a 4in1 driver that a
user had pointed out in a previous thread, then later canceled) I am not
too sure if this caused my CD-ROMs to disapear forever - or is it the cause?
Ok, everything was working fine up to this afternoon, when I lost it all.
So, maybe it was the 4in1 driver I started up by accident.
Anyways, I'm looking for a driver for this board to get me back my access
once again. I've tried visiting www.ESC.com and www.ESCUSA.com and
ESC Elitegroup, etc. but none of them have the drivers for the K7S5A.
Was this MB that good, that it didn't need any updates?
Well, anyways, I hope this was the right area to post, as there is no area
for hardware etc.

not sure if they have what your looking for,but you can try this: http://www.driverguide.com/

tenders,
they didn't even have a match for "K7S5A" - oh well.
Thanks just the same.

You could try to remove it from your hardware profile and then allow windows to redetect it. Windows always has default drivers that will get it working, even if only to read a disc. Then you could use it to reinstall its own native drivers.

devinemi83,
that's very funny! I was just about to do it, when your post came in.
I had just remembered doing something like this once before. Well, we'll
see what happens in a moment or so.
Thanks all.

Success!
In short, I ended up having to re-install Windows 98. Luckly, I had it on
my harddrive. Else I wouldn't have ben able to load it. I had no access
to my CD-ROM drives via any kind of *.sys driver, etc.
I knew I had a good reason to put a copy of my CD-ROM's Windows 98
on my HD. Yeah!
Oh, so far, my CD-ROM drives are back as well as my HDs too.
Thank you all to those that responded.
The End

Try this link: http://www.ecsusa.com/ecsusa/www.ecs.com.tw/download/index_driver_k7s.htm
I'm a little late in posting this since I just came across it, but the K7S5A is based on the SIS 735 chipset. Downloading and installing the VIA 4in1 drivers more than likely totally screwed things up since it was only intended for VIA based chipsets. -
kayfam:
It's based on the SiS 735...
I know because i had to download new sound drivers to get XP Pro to work with AOL because everytime the guy said Welcome! It shut down my pc...lol -
Sorry my fault....I meant the 735. I edited my original post to reflect the same
