  1. also when i change avi into vcd the finish is very blocky whould it make a difference if i downloaded divx files and changed them insted to vcd? also is divx an extension or is it a name e.g myfilm.divx or myfilm(divx).avi any help appreciated

  2. DIVX is a form of compression. AVI is a video format that when uncmpressed is enormus. A 1 hr movie would span several GB's. A DIVX movie will have the extension .avi but the video and sound have most likely been compressed. The benefit of AVI is that you can use "CODECs" to compress both the audio and the video with a program like virtual dub. DIVX slightly reduces the quality but the resulting file is sometimes ten times smaller than if it were uncompressed. So when looking fo DIVX look for moviename(DIVX).avi Also converting from DIVX to MPEG is not easy make sure you follow the howto guide exactly.
