Hopefully, I'm posting this is the right place![]()
Anyway, here's my problem. My wife and I (great way to start huh) watch a particular television show and we have slowly been downloading episodes off the newsgroups and such and burning the downloaded .avi episodes as VCD's. Up until now, there has not been a problem.
So, the other night I download a new episode as an .rar with PAR files. Everything checks out and the file size of the .avi is comparable with other episodes that I have downloaded (about 350MB).
I use VirtualDub to get a .wav file with no compression at 44100Hz. So far, no problem. Then I start up TMPGenc, load in the .avi file and the .wav file and get a message indicating that the file size of the output file is going to be over 4GB. What the.... (they are usually right about 300-400MB)
I was going to encode the file as a standard VCD at an 1150 bitrate but I can't seem to overcome this problem. TMPGenc is the only encoder I have as it's the only encoder I can afford (hmm, it's free, go figure).
Has anyone else ever encountered a problem such as this? If so, were you able to find a solution?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Try loading it into Vdub, don’t save the audio out, but check for bad frames. If it reports none, the save out another copy of the AVI anyway.
Video > direct stream copy
Audio > direct stream copy
SAVE AVI
(Save as movie 2)
Now try that in TMPGEnc...
If Vdub finds some bad frames, then saving it out as above will also remove them, it is not necessary to split the audio unless you experience problems, you could re-load the second copy and do as you always do...
If Vdub stops scanning (Crash) then you need to use another version of Vdub called "vdub-mp3-freeze.exe" from http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/virtualdub.html
That version makes a log of the junk frames at c:\badframes.log (See my other posts), but hopefully you wont need this having followed the above. -
Thanks KingJohn, it appears to have worked like a charm. Just finished the TMPGenc encoding and am about to go a throw it into the ole DVD player to see how it turned out.
Thanks again for your help!!!! -
Good, well if you used a VCD template, then by now you have finished watching it
