  1. The compatibility list shows it has vcd capability. Cannot locate the manual. Also tried to call Sony's tech support. No help. Anyone know how to play vcd's on this sony? I am certain the vcd is good because it plays in a pioneer dvd player and a phillips dvd player.

  2. What media did you use (CD-R or a CD-RW)?

On my Sony, I have to use the STI brand of CD-R's from Circuit City for VCD's to play on my Sony DvD player. A CD-RW should work in your Sony for VCD playback.

  3. I just used cheapo PNY's. Do you have the same dvd player? Is there anything in the manual that explains how to play VCD's (setting, etc) or do you just put it in and it plays?

    thanks for the help.

  4. Nothing worked in my Sony except for the STI brand media from Circuit City. It has a higher reflective coating than other brands. It was the only brand that worked in my Sony DVPS530D except for CD-RW's.

The display should identify your CD when inserted. It should say VCD on the display. Then simply press the play button to begin.

  6. If it says No Disc, then it's the media. Try a CD-RW for testing purposes.

It may say it plays "VCD" but that is not the same as "CDR/VCD" Commercial VCD's are not made the same way as we make them

This site lists it, but it has no "CDR"

But this one is listed as having CDR/RW (NS400)
