ac3 problem can you help?

hi i have a movie with the audio encoded in AC3 format. i have the nimo codec installed and can play back the movie with no problems using Micro Dvd 1.0.
Now : the movie is a Japanese animation which also came with the english audiostream, which is a separate .ac3 file. The problem is that when i select the english ac3 file in Micro DVD, the following error comes up when I start the movie :

unable to load audio file [PAW] Perfect Blue CD1 English.ac3 not a valid a/v file

other ac3 movies play back perfectly.

im tearing my hair out!
ill be grateful for any help you can give me!

You could extract the ac3 with Virtualdub (using direct stream copy), rename the .wav to .ac3 (Virtualdub will give it a .wav extension even though it is an ac3 stream) and convert ac3 to wav with heac3he.

Once you have the wav file, you can extract the video, and re-mux with the wav audio stream
