DVD rips look darker than original

Hi,

I've noticed that DVD rips tend look much darker than the original clips on DVD. Why? I realize there are tradeoffs because of the reencoding.

This has nothing to do with Macrovision because those DVDs are not Macrovision-protected. Whether I use De-Macrovision option in SmartRipper or not, the result is always the same.

Is there anything I can do about this annoying problem? Some rips are simply too dark.

Depending on the encoder you use, you can always experiment with the with the filters to adjust the brightness, contrast, etc.- "Simple Color Correction" under the "Settings > advanced" tab in TMPGEnc, or if you are using CCE, you can frameserve through VirtualDub and use it's filters - "Video > Filters > 'add' button > Levels"

Dark on Your PC ? or dark when played on a VCD > DVD
When converted and played on a DVD they may look OK again
