  1. I have successfully encoded a MPG from Divx using TMPGEnc. After burning it to a CDR using Nero, I notice that the picture 'hops' slightly during play back (Sound is fine & Divx doesn't hop either). Is there anyway to smooth this out? Can become anoying when watching a movie. I have used the guide on VCDHelp website for settings for TMPGEnc to convert to VCD.

    Any Help would be grateful!

    What settings ?
Did you load a VCD template and make a standard compliant VCD ?

  3. Is the "hop" regular, like every second or so, or does it seem like there are frames missing, like jerky movement when the camera pans?

King John: I haven't used a Template in TMPGEnc. Just followed Guide from 'http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm'. Should I be using a Template? Let me know & if so what settings!

MH2360: The 'hoppin' is jerky, like missing frames. Have just downloaded VirtualDub to check Source Divx. Just a hunch I'd thought of, but could problems be I am trying to encode a PAL VCD from a NTSC Divx? I know NTSC has more FPS than PAL. This would explain the jerkiness! Will check this out & get back to you!

  5. When i try to convert 23.976 fps Divx files with the NTSC film template, i get jerkiness like you describe. I use the Settings/Advanced/Inverse Telecine function in Tmpgenc, it smooths things out nicely. Use source range to encode an minute or two (it takes a while for I/T to set itself up for a full movie).

  6. BTW: Encoding a PAL file with an NTSC template will most definately cause jerkiness.

Then unless you know your DVD player will play non standard VCD's or XVCD's then I suggest you load a PAL/NTSC template, and make them compliant. I convert NTSC to PAL all the time with no problems.
