I have 4 avi's using multisegment in Virtual Dub.
I tried to open one then append each one, and then saved as a new avi, but it gave me an error once it got past 4gb while saving, which makes sense.
So do I have to encode each one into an mpg with TMPGEnc first, then join later? WHat is the best way ?
Thanks

If virtualdub gives an error at 4Gb, I would guess you are not using NTFS as your filesystem (under win2k or XP). Normally I would have recomended doing this before encoding to mpeg as it seems to reduce the chance of audio sync errors, but it looks like you have little choice but to encode the files seperatley and then join.

insted of saving as avi, click start frameserver. then load ".vdr" in to TMPGEnc and encode like normal.frameserving takes longer but shou be easier for you.

I tried loading the vdr, but tmpgenc says it is unsopported.
Do I need to buy the Pro version? I am using the free trial?
Maybe this should motivate me to upgrade to WinXP, I just dont want to have to reinstall from scracth now.
or buy a new PC..lol -
i use "TMPGEnc plus" version "2.54.37.135". search kazaa for it

try this first this a quote from another post
"When you bring up TMPGEnc and select the video input, remember to select "all files" to be able to load the .vdr file."
mine is set to this alsoWhere I walk, I walk alone. Where I fight, I fight alone. -
Thanks, I tried that and it just says
FILE C:\VCD\CAPTEST.VDR is not supported or cannot be opened. -
you can still try TMPGEnc plus if you like and can get it fast. but if that don't work then maybe your frameserve is being affected by your fat32 filing system. reencode seperatly and ust ythe "edit" link to the left to help you join your mpeg. which of course you can use TMPGEnc plus to do the joining. i've never tried to frameserve under fat32 and mostly only(but rarely) use it to resize .sorry

I figured out thanks for all the help.
I had to use virutaldub 1.4.9 insteaod fo 1.4.10 -
you're right. found this at vdub website-
"symptoms- Frameserving does not work in 1.4.10, because the requisite libraries fail to load.
cause- The 1.4.10 frameserver libraries were inadvertently shipped linked against the Visual Studio .NET (VC7) run-time library; this was a mistake. VirtualDub itself still runs because it was compiled with Visual C++ 6.0 as intended. Visual C++ 6.0 will continue to be the target compiler for the 1.4 series, and as such the MSVCR70.DLL libraries will not be provided.
workaround- Install the frameserver libraries from 1.4.9, which are properly linked with the VC6 CRT. There have been no changes to the frameserver libraries in 1.4.10 -- the code is exactly the same and will work fine with 1.4.10 acting as server."
vdub 1.3c is still the bestWhere I walk, I walk alone. Where I fight, I fight alone.
