  1. Hi,

I believe this is a common problem but I've searched all google,
forums here and could not find an answer. The problem is, for the
mpeg2 files I converted using TMPGenc or mpeg1 files I ripped
from VCDs: When I use the slider bar to change the position of the
movie (this happens on Windows Media Player, TMPGenc cutting tool
and Ulead movie factory preview window), the movie either waits for
a few seconds (sometimes 20 seconds!) or jumps ahead a few seconds.
Let me try to explain this with an example: While watching the movie,
I use the slider bar to go to the 25:34 position. Either of the followings
occur: Movie just jumps to 25:42 and continues from there, or
it stops for a few seconds and then continues playing. Not all mpeg1
or mpeg2 movies I have have this problem. And if I cut the movie
at 25:34 position, it's actually either cut at 25:42 or 25:24!

This is very annoying when cutting the movie, you always cut from
the incorrect position unless you never use the slider bar. (BTW: the audio-video sync is always correct, no problems with that).

Is there an easy way to fix this problem?

    Thanks!

Most MPEG cutting programs will only cut at I-frame points. If 25.34 is not on an I-frame, the program will jump to the nearest one.

  3. SLK001: Thanks for the reply. Actually, this happens for the whole file, i.e. if a file is bad, it consistantly behaves the same (like 10 second
delay) except for the first few minutes. So it should not be related to
    I-frame, I believe.
