TMPGEnc 2.5x was made to run on higher end computers. What are your computer specs? Do they match up with the minimum system requirements for the version of TMPFEnc that you are downloading?...

Go to the TMPGEnc website to download TMPGEnc.

Take a look at the specs. If you have enough computer to handle it, get it. If not then do a search (in yahoo or something) for an earlier version and download it...

Unzip the folder to a folder on your hard drive
use "C:\Program Files\TMPGEnc\Version" where "version" is the version of TMPGEnc because I have 2.0 on there for wmv and asf files, and 2.5x for all other types...

Just another point is that sometimes MPEG-2 or other encoding templates may not play well on your computer but will play perfect in your DVD player...

What are you using to view the output files?

Opinions are like a**holes; everybodys got one and most of them stink. That being said, my personal experience with tmpegenc from 12a to now is that aside from the quality of the input file the biggest thing that affects quality for a given bitrate is the setting of the motion search precision. I have found that slow - high quality (not slowest - which is too damn slow for me) is the best compromise between time and quality. You could try that and see if it helps.

    Try viewing in WinDVD

    or

Burn a CD-RW and test on your DVD player. That way you don't waste a CD everytime you wanna test a vid...

Trust me, playing on a dvd player and watching on your tv is a world of difference from your pc unless you're viewing a DVD (in my opinion)
