  1. I downloaded DVDx from Doom9 and I want to use it to rip a DVD I have called Groove....The program claims to rip the DVD directly to VCD 2.0 standard MPEG-1 format... which is a godsend to me because i dont have time to be checkin on a dvd rip for 12 hours....i was wondering if anyone out there had tried and what kind of results they got..... I'm not looking for pristine video and audio... just something to give me fluid motion....and at least decent video....

  3. Well, i've checked out DVDx, it seems pretty nice, basicly it saves you the DVD2AVI step as it can encode straight from the VOB's, it's basicly just another Encoder, the nice thing I see is that it can encode straight from the DVD, so you can also save the SmartRipper stage, as for quality, it only does MPEG1 formats, i haven't seen choices for VBR, so i'm presuming it's only CBR, but you can set diffrent bitrates for video and audio, overall, it looks like a very nice all-in-one DVD2VCD program, that can be an alternative for those of us who only do VCD/XVCD formats.

Almost forgot, the program is pretty fast too I think, it took less then 3 hours to do a 66min movie straight from VOB to VCD.

Hi, The latest version 1.2 has setting for SVCD, though VBR is not mentioned, but can be tweeked out.Compared to TMPENC -a lower quality picture. The big advantage is easy choice if subs.

I've got the latest version (v2.4?) and it now does SVCD(mpeg2). I copied both XMEN (@4.5hrs) and MATRIX (@6hrs) yesterday and burned with Nero 5.5 and am watching XMEN on the laptop right now. It even split the resultant mpeg for me at the point I wanted for putting on 2 CDRs. I can't believe it can get any better than this, and v3 is coming out according to the web site. Right from the DVD to an mpeg file. We got to give this guy any resource he needs to keep this thing moving forward. The only real gotcha I had was to have MAX FRAMES in input default to the whole DVD (all frames) instead of 10000. Otherwise for a newbie like me this is definitely the cats meow, and I'll be purring for a while.

It encoded at a steady 10-12 frames/sec. Didn't see much change from setting priority from high to real time. I've literally thrown out all my other vid software except for DVD Decrypter just in case DVDx has a hard time and I have to rip from the hard drive instead of DVD. Which by the way gave me only marginally better time.

First post so here's my config:

    Athlon 1.2
    Biostar DDR 256meg
    ATI AIW Radeon DDR (AGP)
    20gig IDE hard drive (2)
Latest ATI/AMD/VIA drivers loaded in the order recommend in the forums. (A must, fixed many problems)
(And make sure to follow the ATI

Where is 1.2 of the program that you say can do SVCD...

I went to the Doom9 site and they have only the 1.1 version...

    and it does only mpg1..

I would like to check out the version that does mpg2 (if there is one)

    Thanks.

I not sure where I found a zip version, but if you have a hard time I can put one together and e-mail to you when I get home tonight. It was fairly small and just an .exe and a .dll, kept in the same directory. Unless someone has posted a .zip on this sight already? If anyone else can get to the request in the next few hours (before I can) just post that you did it.

PS: XMEN came out pretty good for just a test vcd... actually very good and the sound is great even on these cheapo $5 headphones I have on. I'll see what MATRIX looks like in svcd later...hopefully its done before I get home. I kicked it off before I left for work. It listed an estimated 6.5hrs. Oooooooo I getting so exited.

  15. Here is a link to another program (because I don't like winRAR) that will handle *.rar files for those who want be able to use DVDx. http://www.7-zip.com/ This program will handle most archive files that I have thrown at it and is FREEWARE.

  17. What quality is the encoded mpeg. Does it come close to TMPGenc, or Panasonic MPEG1 encoder?
What encoder does the program use?

    TIA

  18. DVDx is GREAT. I love it. I started encoding late last night and then this morning I went to school. I come back to find 2 files for my movie-- you can set it to auto split! And the quality is NICE. I played i on Dreamcast and the audio was more on sync then normal and the frame rate was pretty good too. There was NO DISTORTION tho. I'm VERY happy with this. Its the best progam I've seen for ANYTHING in a while. The quality was excellent when I tested on a DVD player, but the dvd player and cd-r themovie were on are both cheap and it started to skip after awhile dunno why

  19. I would say even better then Tmpeg and Panasonic. Increddible rendering time with splendid quality on my stand-alone Cyberhome DVD-player.
Rendered Coast Away (Tom Hanks) 2 ways, Tmpeg and DVDx, DVDx is faster and better in quality display. -> SVCD rulez near DVD.

    Great Proggie!!!

  21. Hmm... Keep getting the following error message. I've tried adjusting almost all of the settings to no avail - it also happens with both MPEG 1 and 2 encoding.

    MPEG2dec: Too much sample
Try other frame rate or change 'Detect/Force 24Hz' flag.

    Then this window pops up:

    Warning message(s)
    Thu Aug 16 16:46:17 2001:Warning VBV delay overflows = 262

Any ideas?? I'm running this in XP, and I wonder if that has anything to do with it...

    For FREE???
MAN! Give this developer a medaille!!!

Right now I'm encoding a 5 min. test svcd-mpeg2; smoothly, WITH subtitle. About 4fps in the backgroud. I'm REALLY impressed. Can't wait to see this little testfile on my stgandalone DVD player...

  25. Spacex,

Same here - about 5-10 seconds and it quits. I'm going to try it in 98, and if that doesn't work I have another Celeron box I can try it on.

I really want to see what kind of quality this program puts out.

I'll let you know if I get it working but don't hold your breath

  28. Just had the first tests. Result is about 300%. THIS IS GOOD!
Had some starting up problems because the proggie told me it couldn't find teh IFO file. Playing around a bit with the file "OPEN DVD or ROOT" and starting the DVD up for a short moment helped me out to "unlock"(?).

2nd; it gives a delay overflow and video underflow messgae after encoding. Suggesting to adjust paddling start etc.
No harm noticible when playing back on a standalone DVD.
    Quality is absolutely VERY good!!

  29. Actually, using 'Open DVD Root' (as opposed to 'Open IFO') solved my aforementioned problem as well.

    Give that a shot Spacex.

    Well,

I'm trying out right now! I had such a hard time downloading it though!! Arg!
After each download, it would un-Rar (8 tries). Anyway, this evening, the first
download was a success, and installation was a snap!

    Operation:
    ------------
    * All I did was "Open DVD Root" and selected the longest time, 2:06min I think.
Yep, I'm gonna give "Moonraker" another test code with the SAME clip I used in
last nights upload. I'll encode the same sectoin to see what the quality is like
or compares to the uploaded fle, and I will burn a test cd and play on my dvd player
to see if this thing give me the Jitters/moiton problems as well. If it doesn't and
passess with flying colors, I'll know then, that it's TMPGEnc and not my DVD player.
Right now, I'm having thoughts that it's my dvd player (apex ad-500) that's causing
    the jitters/motion prlblems during play.
This link work! LINK to file I uploaded last night:
    http://briefcase.yahoo.com/bc/a0z012yaya/lst?.dir=/My+Documents/Capture+Samples+from+d...c=bc%26.view=l

    * I'll post the same clip when I finish test encode and you can see for yourself, as to
    quality!!

    * I'm sure I will be having lots of trouble, as you guys are having, per your posts so far!
But, this is only a test. So....
