I still can't work out why my PC gives me this trouble, but it's sporatic and unpredictable when it happens. Firstly, I've ensured that my Pioneer DV103 ROM player is connected as the Secondary Master. Secondly, when this particular error occurs it's always the same thing ...
I run DVD Genie 4.10 and get it to run PowerDVD 4 in the correct region of the DVD disc in question. Then an error number appears that says "Cannot Run. Error: 8901000F" - this is the only error I've ever encountered using PowerDVD and it just happens when you least expect it. I've reinstalled Windows 2000 numerous times and it is currently on a fresh install, but this error keeps occurring.
Does ANYONE have any idea as to what this error number means (8901000F)? Many thanks.

i donn't, but i sugest you just flash your dvd(at your own risk of course) to region free and leave dvdgenie alone.

Well, I think I found my answer. It was due to a flag setting called "Alternate Region Setting" - turning this on was actually corrupting the operation of PowerDVD, so I have no idea what this feature is really for other than to make my DVD playback a misery - maybe the people at www.inmatrix.com can tell me what it's supposed to be there for.
As for flashing the DVD-ROM drive, I have looked up the available sites that hold all the versions of my particular DV103 Pioneer and there is nothing that pertains to making it region-free, all they seem to do is allow you to make unlimited flashes until the EPROM itself burns out from over-flashing - which is not the desirable thing to do you must admit.
I don't know why you'd want me to ditch DVD Genie as this allows the user to bypass having to flash the EPROM and instead "fool" the PC into thinking you have the correct Region setting for the DVD you want to play. Any reason why you want me to avoid DVD Genie? Anyway, now that I've managed to answer my own question, here's a some link for Pioneer DVD Region software that you might be interested in ...
