I have a great DivX of Monsters Inc but cannot get audio and video to sync. I've extracted the audio but it will not match up properly in TMPGEnc. If I adjust the sound gap to match at the start of the video - it drifts out again.
Virtual Dub says '292 frames masked' (291 frames good but undecodable. 1 frame bad)'.
Any help appreciated![]()

This could be a framerate conversion problem.
Are you for instance converting an NTSC source to PAL ? -
No! I'm converting at 23.976 fps (NTSC Film) as the original file info stated in Virtual Dub. I've used the method used here (VCD Help) to do many other VCD's but this one is odd.
I have also noticed that a 'scroller' warning about copying which is present in Virtual Dub disappears after processing with TMPGEnc?
Many Thanks -
Virtual Dub says '292 frames masked' (291 frames good but undecodable. 1 frame
Vdub saves out another copy without the bad frames.
Video > direct stream copy
Audio > direct stream copy
SAVE AVI (Movie 2)
Reload second AVI.... -
Great KingJohn
This seems to have done the trick. Even the 'Scrolling Sreener Warning' has re-appeared after using the cleaned up avi.
Many thanks I've been fiddling around with this for weeks.

As you were!! My avi. starts off in sync but gradually goes more out of sync as it goes on. About 2 seconds towards the end.
Now what? -
2 seconds towards the end what ?
If you still have the original AVI, try "vdub-mp3-freeze.exe" this one makes a log of the bad frames at C:\badframes.log which you can use to delete the bad frames (At key frames) starting at the highest block (See my other post)

This is old faithful, I use this all the time, as the new Vdub does have problems.
After removal, you could also save out the audio, and check the length, hopefully there is no audio problems as well
Audio > full processing mode
Audio > conversion > 44.1Khz
SAVE WAV
If the sync is out constantly then you can fix that the way you did it, but if its OK then goes out, then back in, then there is an audio problem, its best then to convert a bit at a time, do the good parts, and leave the bad until later.
You can save out in Vdub, but try the above program first -
Hi Again KingJohn
When I said 2 seconds out at the end - I meant the sound was 2 seconds in front of the video. But its worse! I have just had another look and its about 10 seconds in front of the video. It IS in sync at the start though. I have checked the WAV and it is the same length (timewise as the video 1:32:05).
Thanks for the info on 'vdub_mp3_freeze' but it does not seem to be there. (on either mirror). I try to get it from elsewhere.

SORTED!!!
I managed to get vdub_mp3_freeze and ran it. I had a huge block of bad frames - 292 all together. I repaired these with AVDefreeze (which seemed to remove the audio). Then ran TMPGenc with the original .WAV and the DEfeezed AVI.
Hey presto!! Perfect.
I should have noticed the bad frames earlier but they were right at the end of the movie in the credits. So it should have been a lot easier.
This is a 'cracking' AVI!! There are several versions available - this one is 716,912 kb and is 352 X 240 - look for it.
Cheers BaRoNbR i2001 -
Ok, well the log file will let you delete the frames it finds (Including the audio). Anyway glad its finally fixed.
I have Monsters INC DVD rip quality, its pretty old now
