    Hi,
    When I open an avi file within virtualdub an error window comes up, it says "Error: MJPEG scan has mislabeled component" and the file fails to load. This file plays perfectly with media player 6. Note that virtualdub opens other files ok. I dont know what codec the failing file is using but it it is obviously installed as it plays in media player, or am I wrong?Please advise.

    Well its sounds like the AVI was made with Morgan Multimedia MJPEG.

    Software M-JPEG AVI files can be played back by hardware codec's, so you need to install the codec to do any conversions.

    Thanks for the help, but as I said in my original post the file plays ok in media player so the codec must be installed. Anymore ideas!

    Just becuse it plays, means "Nothing"

    Will it load into TMPGEnc ?
