I found out why i'm dropping frames, im in PIO transfer mode.
Windows won't let me override that and return to DMA.
How can I force windows to allow me to return to DMA? Delete the system events log? A regestery tweak?
It said if you get more than 6 CRC errors, DMA is shut down fo good.

As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

that didn't work. The Drive is stuck in PIO mode.
Somebody help me please.
Out of 86 people, no one knows how to get my drive back to DMA.
I ran a test and the drive is incapible of capturing DV until it gets back to DMA.
HELP -
I could be one of two thing your motherboard or harddrive suck.
You enable in the bios didn't you?. -
1. Did it ever work in DMA?
2. Did you install the drivers that came with the motherboard?
3. Have you downloaded the latest drivers?
4. Is it under warranty?
Even if XP forced you into PIO mode, it did that because of errors which should not be occurring. Try the drive in another machine or another drive in yours. Most likely bad mainboard if you have the correct drivers installed.
5. Do you have a UDMA cable installed? These have much finer wires than standard IDE cables. (there are 80 of them instead of 40). Also make sure the cables are on correctly, snug fit and no bent pins. -
1.) Yes, it has always worked fine in Ultra DMA Mode 5 until about a week ago.
2.) I have no idea, my computer was built by Dell for me.
3.) Where can I find the latest driver, where can i find out what kind of MOBO I have?
4.) I don't think I use cables, I took my hard drive out and it was like a funny lil pluggy thing. I have a laptop computer. -
Have you got system restore?
If not have you ever backed up your registry?
If win98 then boot into dos and type scanreg/restore and select an old registry to back up to and see if that helps. -

That's my hard drive.
Unfortunatly I have system retore turned off. -
if you have a via chipset, then you must install the via 4 in 1 drivers

below is an amazing little program that will analyze your system and report what your chipset is...

Actually, there is NOTHING bad with your hardware! I had th3e same problem. The solution? I put my disc drives separate from my HD's on another IDE channel. Try that. Apparently XP doesn't like DVD/CD-ROM drives as slaves on the Primary IDE port.
I had my main HD (a Seagate) and my DVD ROM as slave on the Primary channel, but XP would always refuse to make my DVD drive with DMA. SO I started playing with the placing of the drives on the IDE ports and I tried putting my CDRW drive and my DVD ROM on one IDE port (Secondary) and my both Hard drives on the primary. Try it outIt might solve your problem.

Also, make sure XP has "DMA if available" on all IDE channels set. Otherwise, it's PIO the stream method...
-
Sorry, i was just frustrated.
What was funny was the hdd is the master and it was in PIO, but the DVD was the slave and always in UltraDMA Mode 2.
I found an olllld system restore point and it fixed it. -knock on wood-
