I am wondering if I can simply swap out the processor I have (AMD XP 1800+) for a 2200+, or will I have to get a new motherboard, etc?

I want to kick up my encoding time, and if I could just plug in a new processor, I will, but if I need a new mainbopard or need to redo the bios or something, I can't, I just don't have the skills.

  2. This crystal ball isn't working; I asked it what brand and model of motherboard you had, and it just didn't tell me. It did say that you ought to go to the motherboard manufacturer site and find out from the specs what processor speeds it supports, or look in the manual.

  4. Hi,

Most of the mobo's that support an AMD 1800+ XP's will support the 2200+ as wel, but check the specs to be sure. Or check the bios if you can set it to the speed of the 2200+.

    Hope this helps,

  5. It appears that you will need the latest BIOS update (unless you have it already, in which case you are good to go).
