Hi all. I have read some of the tutorials on using cce to re-encode some large files to smaller ones, but do not quite understand how to do this. It is not very clear for a beginner like me. My demo version of cce does not accept mpegs or vobs so I assume I need to convert the file to a format that cce will recognize. How do I do this? Simple explanation will be much appreciated. Thanks

There are many guides both on this website (HOW TO sections on the left) and also on www.doom9.net
The guides you find around are designed as step by step guides for beginners and provide the best starting block for you.
If / when you get stuck pop back and ask awaywe will be more than willing to help. Try and keep your questions as specific as you can though.
Good luck and have fun[/quote]

Thanks for the reply. I guess my notr was not quite specific enough. The ONLY thing I cannot do is load an mpeg 2 into cce. The guides do not explain this, only to use cce. Or I am just blind. Thanks again

The usual route is to create a DVD2AVI project file and frameserve that project file to CCE using either VFAPI or AVISYNTH.
The "DVD Rip" guides on the left do explain most methods as do those on Doom9.
Basically the problem with most mpeg endoders (CCE, Tmpgenc and the likes) is they are designed to compress an uncompressed source, not an already compressed mpeg source. This is why frameserving is used.
I do apologise for seeming a little snotty in my earlier post but it is beneficial for you to read the guides yourself. All we would end up doing is quoting them verbatim to answer your question
Of the 2 frameservers VFAPI is simpler (you basically load the DVD2AVI project file and it saves a pseudo avi which CCE can then load) but it's much slower at providing the frames to CCE compared to AVISYNTH. AVISYNTH is however most complex to use but is both faster and more configurable.
Good luck and if you get stuck post back.
