Does anyone have a motherboard with integrated audio? Most of the new motherboards that I'm researching are equipped with onboard audio chips. I'm not sure how "good" they are, so I would appreciate any input.

Same here, I built a new computer just for video capturing and editing. My motherboard has onboard audio and I don't have the sound/snych issue that I have with my old computer(although I think it had more to do with the mmc for ati than anything else).

But to answer the question if I didn't know better I would never know that the audio was onboard.

    Hope this helps

Most current on-board audio chipsets are fine for basic stuff. A few boards have pretty advanced on-board sound (6-channel, a real DSP, etc), and a few have very poor audio (most of the load gets dumped on the CPU). Most are somewhere in between, of course.

The only real problem I have with on-board audio is that some motherboards don't give you all the connections you'd find on an add-in card. I have a machine with perfectly good on-board sound, but I have an old SB16 ISA card in it because there's no joystick port (that would also be a concern if you used MIDI for anything).

I have onboard audio, and I can't get 16 bit, 44.1 kHz sound...locks up the machine...tried 4 different sets of drivers, none of them work....but I just drop the sampling rate down to 22.5 kHz and I am good to go though. So I would say just test it out and then decide what is best for you.
    End of Line.

I have another open question. I'll post it here, instead of creating another thread.

I've really been leaning towards a dual cpu setup. My current cpu just happens to use the dreaded VIA chipset and Creative Live! series soundcard. I've read that ATI cards don't "like" dual cpu systems.

    1. Is anyone running a dual cpu system with an All In Wonder card? If so, have you experienced any compatability issues?

    2. Is anyone running a dual cpu system with a different manufacturer's capture card?

I figured that I could scavenge my ATI AIW from this computer and use it in a new system, with integrated sound. That would eliminate my chipset and sound card issues. It looks like that may not be the case, if I build a SMP system.

I, unfortunately, cannot answer your question-but I suggest that you DO make another post with this subject...you will get an answer quicker that way..
    End of Line.
