is there a another program that can capture directly to mpeg/mpeg2 other than videostudio 6, with a firewire and digital camcorder?
because whenever i use vs6 the mpegs look wavy.
also any suggestions for capturing live concert video with vs6?

How do i get these programs to capture to MPEG?
ALl it wants to do is capture firewire to DV codec. -
I think it's the Dazzle DV-Raptor, that has a seperate MPeG-2 add-on board (buyable seperately and connectable directly to the card, so you don't loose a 2nd PCI-slot).
This card captures FireWire. Using the add-on card you'll be able to directly capture using a MPeG-coded (hardware encoded : always better than any software codec while you won't loose costly CPU-time for the encoding).
Otherwise you need to go to the semi-professional area : the 'Matrox RT-family (like RT-2500)' also capture FireWire directly to MPeG-2 (I-frames only) using Premiere.
btw. This codec seems to be only suitable for DVD as your final solution and not usable when you want to create (S)VCD. -
A simple program to us is Pinnacle Studio Ver 7 with good results. Also, a new version is available. Ulead is another good program that captures, encodes and burns video CD's.
