    Situation:

I recently got a Sony Digital8 Cam, and I tried using the passthrough AV/DV connections to capture VHS movies I own. I want to convert my collection to DVD-R. I'd hate to have to revert back to Analog captures. I really like the firewire transfer smoothness, and the lack of Macrovision issues while using the all digital out.

    Problem:

Full quality captures of 720x480 (using Pinnacle Studio 7, or AMCAP) produce nice captures, EXCEPT... I have a band of noise(?) at the bottom of the screen. It looks like a VHS tape that needs the tracking adjusted.
I want to crop off the bottom few pixles to eliminate this screen trash.

Can someone please tell me the best way to do this?

Studio 7 has a good crop feature during capture, but it's only good for ANALOG captures. Since I'm useing the HandyCam to convert the signal to digital, and transfer the thing via firewire, the option is not available.

Suggestions Please... If anyone knows that Studio DV has this ability I would purchase it for that alone.

    Thanks,

    Charles R Jackson

    Charles,

If you're going out to DVD-R then you will never see those lines due to the overscan on the TV.

However, if you've got to get rid of them, use TMPGEnc to encode to DVD format and select the cropping feature.

I'm working on one right now. I'll leave the lines alone and burn to DVD-RW and see what happens. If it's due to overscan and won't be seen then no problem.

I don't think TMPGEnc recognizes my AVI's. It doesn't when I use the Pinnacle DC10+ to capture, but I haven't tried the firewire capture yet.

I'll try it too and see what happens.
