  2. well sorry for medling into the conversation like this but ... i don't even use nero! Tried it, hated it. Not because of the way it ran, that part couldn't be better. But for some people nero is an overkill sort of speak. It reminds me of a swiss army knife : boot CDs, mixed mode CDs, VCDs audio ... and on and on and on. I'm a regular user, a boot CD won't make much difference and some filters it comes with end up neglected by people like me. So I stay with videopack 5, ez cd creator. They are as simple to use as nero, the reliability seems the same and the upgrades do make a difference.

in the matter of the several upgrades for nero...

i was kinda wondering this myself.. i've never noticed any of the nero bugs, and i've been using it since early version 4.. i imagine a significant reason they update it so frequently is to battle keygens & serials.. but then again, i'm not even sure if the last 5.5.9.x versions wouldnt all work with the same keys..
Jeex's idea is logical but the serials and keygens keep coming up faster than the releases, and btw : never have I seen a program whose update would detect a generated serial.

KingJohn, you are lucky. Nero have been given me hell yesterday and I uninstalled and deleted everything to do with Nero in the computer. All those bugs, strange messages and unreadable data.

Even though as updated to include my new Sony CD burner, it wasn't working properly with it and still got compatiblity issues. The computer's OS is Win2000 SP3, again problems there. The computer keeps on crashing so many times when I try to burn the disk. 24 hours is enough, I gave Nero the flick, no more.

If you had Nero V1.000 installed, and used a keygen then you can update to the latest, No the keygen problem is not the reason for updates.

Actually I don’t use Nero for much, I always used Easy CD Creator until I had a problem with it and my new burner (it made blank disks) so since Nero came with the writer I started to use it...

But you could also say the Easy CD Creator is a "Swiss army knife" and is a "Jack of all trades" but Master of none ?

I do use Video Pack 5.1 for VCD, and the wife uses Nero for MP3 .. So umm.. What do I use Nero for, well it is used on occasion, I did make a VCD the other day with it, just to get 90 minuets on a 80 minuet CD, it never worked

I must admit I do use it for standard data disks, I started with Adaptec, and I gess if Roxio had not made a mess of things I would still be using it now...

I guess we need them all ?

This made me think for a second and i have to concede : ez cd creator can be compared to nero in this aspect. Still i think it runs smoother than nero.

Could this be ? Am I thinking about giving nero another test drive ? ...Seems like it !

Back L8r with my opinion reviewed

  6. Nero is pretty good for most sorts of discs (CD-ROMs, audio CDs). I have to say that I prefer Nero over Easy CD Creator.

For VCDs, I suggest something more specialised. Same for CD copying.

  8. They missed a full stop out at the end of a sentence in the help files.

This release has fixed this problem.

Nero is not released without reason, in fact Ahead always listen to what people have to say about their products. If many people have emailed them about a problem, they will investigate the problem and will release a fix as soon as possible.

It is always advisable to install the latest version, what you may not do today you may try tomorrow and find there is a problem. Keeping up with new releases will always give you the latest bug fixes, it will also work with more writers as newer ones are released.

Nero has done it for a number of reasons and the results are too much to list here. Check it out here for details: http://www.nero.com/en/index.html#c1002822723320

  11. There isn't shit on that page that has been recently updated.

It's like you own a new car and then a new model comes out and you run and buy it without reading the reviews on it. It might suck or have problems..how in the hell do you know what has been added or fixed on it without having someone test drive it first or tell you what's good about it. I still haven't heard anyone say what's new about it. There is nothing on their site about the update, other than new drive support.
