I know this has come up a few times, but reading through the posts it was hard to get a clear answer.

When using VCDEasy, I sometimes get the "power calibration failed" error - but sometimes don't, with the same CDRs.

Is this a media issue, or a hardware issue? Any help greatly appreciated.

  2. Probably better than 90% of the time a "power calibration error" will be a bad or inconsistent media batch, use a cd-rw that you have written to before to conclude if you have a problem w/ your cd-rw drive or just media, this should help you resolve if you should get a new spindle of better quality media or get a plextor, lite-on or yamaha cd-rw drive

  3. It could be a little of both. I had the exact same problems with my old creative 8432. Its only liked Verbatim dark blue disc that they dont make anymore. If I used a green disc, i got the error like 8 of 10 times. I got a new burner and havent had one yet. I found my old burner liked only 1 brand. Maybe yours is picky too as to what color dye it can use.

  4. Mine seems like a hardware issue. Just yesterday I accidently spilled a soda on my computer, though only on the outside, (didn't look like much got inside my A04 DVD Recorder, just the outside tray). Today I received a power calibration error when burning through Nero, though I continued to burn it anyways. One disc looked a bit discolored halfway across the center and blurred through the middle, the recorder also made different noises when trying to read it (they couldn't be read, btw). Only one disc burned fine so far. Never had problems with Optodiscs before prior to this incident
