I have this program, a legal copy of it.

I'm considering replacing my illegal copy of XP Professional with a copy of legal XP Home so I can use Service Pack 1 and future upgrades.

Is their any major differences, they both support NTFS I know.

And remember, I'm 17 and I use my laptop for games, video, school n stuff,

Is their anything I have in XP Professional that I don't have in XP home that will MAJORLY affect me.

I'm kool with product activation, it doesn't bother me.

I can't add anything inside, all i do is plug and unplug external drives.

I know that XP home cannnot join a domain on a network, and doesn't have support for more then 1 cpu, other then that I'm not sure though.

  4. WinXP Pro also has encryption file system (EFS) - not important for single users of the OS.

What exactly does product activation do?

Does it affect my ability to add firewire drives?

  6. the main difference is that pro lets you logon to a domain, home doesnt.

All activation does is tie your activation number with some info about your machine so that they can guess if your installing your copy on more then one machine. If its really a legal copy I wouldn't worry about it. Personally I have a problem with the whole activation thing but until apple decides to release OSX for the PC what a guy to do? Linux? BAH!

I am thinking of the other way around from WinXP Home Edition to WinXP Pro. WinXP Pro is better than the home edition. Currently, I am still waiting for WinXP Service Pack 1 to fix the bugs in the OS.

My WinXP computer is Compaq, this one needs a clean sweep, this means to re-format the hard drive and to install WinXP Pro. My computer also needs to have an increased RAM to 256 as well as it is too slow.

The computer's processor is Celeron, this one isn't as good as Pentium 4. The pentium is a way much better and faster than the 1.1Ghz Celeron processor. I am not complaining and Win XP computer is great for the Internet.

There is another computer, this one will need an overhaul with an upgrade of a new mainboard and P4 processor and to re-format the drive replacing WinMe into the Win2000. WinMe is a shocking OS and I will have to throw out the WinMe disk soon.

Improvements wouldn't be too far off soon.
