    Hi,
Does anyone have one of these portable DIVX players? http://www.archos.com/us/products/product_jbmm.html

I have seen a review when I was on holiday in France. I have the magazine here somewhere but it in French.

  2. Note that it doesn't say "DivX" anywhere in the specs. Instead, it says:

MPEG4 simple profile (Max. CIF format - 352x288 pixels, 30 frames/sec., VHS Quality, AVI File format, MP3 stereo sound tracks)

The FAQ for this product has these 2 questions (and answers):

    3. I have an AVI movie that was encoded with DivX, but it will not play, why?

The JBMM supports MPEG4 Simple Profile, CIF resolution (352x288 pixels) @ 30 frames sec. The JBMM will play DivX encoded movies UP TO CIF resolution. A lot of DivX movies are encoded at full DVD resolution, and will not play on the JBMM at the encoded resolution and frame rate. You will need to convert these files with VirtualDub. Instructions can be found here.

    4. Does the JBMM support DivX?

    Please question 3 (above).

It seems that it will play DivX movies, but it's pretty specific about resolution, max bitrate, audio, etc.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

Limited support is better than nothing. Most encoding at the higher resolutions leaves something to be desired for quaility.

DivX is Mpeg 4 so it shouldn't be long before a player is available

Perhaps acceptable resolutions, bitrates etc be definied so people have something to work from.
