    Hope someone can answer a simple question. Can you burn a VCD straight from an .avi with burning software, or do you need to convert it from an .avi (Divx) to .mpg first?

    an avi must be converted first,then you can burn

    You can load an AVI into the authoring programs, they will convert them to mpeg before they burn. However most of these programs make a right mess of things, so use TMPGEnc to make the mpeg
