Have been converting AVI to MPEG for a while now to make VCD's and have been quite successful, after a few failed attempts (and coasters) which I put down to having the DivX 5.0 codec being installed - read somewhere that it causes problems with TMPGEnc which I always use so I deleted that codec. Anyway, my problem is this:

Sometimes when I burn the finished VCD and play on my standalone DVD player, the video 'slows' - just like playing in slow motion, the audio carries on as normal and then the video goes really fast and catches up! I had put this down to the disks that I was using but have used these before successfully. When I play the VCD on my computer, it plays perfectly. What causes this? I have tried re-copying the disk onto another one at a slower speed but I get the same 'skips' on the copy.

Also, some of the files that I have converted to VCD are a little jerky when moving left to right/right to left - especially in high action scenes. I don't change the framerate from the original file so can't see why this happens. Any suggestions??? Thanks.

  2. yea i have been getting the same problems as well, the video skips forward quickly and the audio desyncs,i usually just rewind the vcd a few seconds and it sorts it out but it is still annoying cus it happens about every 8 minutes.now i know it cant be a burning software problem because i copied a vcd that i know works ok on my dvd player, and that worked fine.however when i do my own dvd to vcd rips i get the problem of audio video desyncronisation,i can only think it must be to do with the encoding of the movie file,i use tmpeg.the movies play fine using my dvd player on my computer using powerdvd or just using mediaplayer.i am going to try a different vcd encoder to see if this solves the problem, but if any of you techie guys have an answer,we would be gratefull
    thanks
