  1. I own an AverTV Stereo card right now and love it . Don't get me wrong, but I just bought dcr-trv sony digital camera with composite. s-video and this new firwire thing I know little about. I also have a digital cable box with S-video and firwire as well as composite and coaxial. Im going to buy a new card and was curious what the pros on this board would recomend to me. I can spend about 150 bucks. Im interested in an ATI All-In-Wonder, but have no idea which one to get, but would buy any card that would do all that I need it to do. I love making vcds from tv shows, but need a card that has the most connection with high quality results.

I read all the reviews on this site and still have no idea.

My son was born Monday so I want the new DV to be put on vcds in highest quality

If you really want to have the best quality possible, then I gues you've got to think about semi-professional capture devices.

I've got a MATROX RT-2500, which captures analogue an digital (digital : camcorders) at the same card and all in DV. It has 2 IEEE1394 connectors and 1 outbox (via which analogue can be capture via composite and SVideo, or exported to e.g. a vcr).
    The quality is superb (great).
Naturely when creating SVCD you've got the best quality, but even when you create VCD it looks like it's even better than a movie at vhs.

Naturely, there's a pricecard on the card.
The card costs about EURO 1200 (about $1195) - these prices were from 10months ago so it's possible these prices are less by now.

  3. Thanks betamax for you input, unfortunately with the purchase of the 700 dollar camera and film and case, Im short in the budget department. The card you recomend sounds like my cup of tea, but I need something a little bit more affordable. Any other of our forum members have any more ideas. Does any of the ATI AIW cards have S-video, Composite, Coaxial, and firwire conections? Thanks again, please leave me any recomendations at all.

  4. If your cable box has firewire-out, and it works, please list the make and model. That would be the best possible as it should feed you the MPG stream directly. Firewire is a file transfer, not a capture. No conversion happens, although filesizes will be huge.

I think the 8500DV has everything you want, but maybe you just need a firewire card.
