  1. After ripping a DVD with SmartRipper, getting the WAV/D2V files with DVD2AVI, and re-encoding it to MPEG-1 with TMPGEnc (704x352 resolution), I can play it fine on my stand alone Panasonic RV31K.

However, I've noticed that the voices of people (all of them) are lower pitch than when I heard them on the DVD. What's causing that and can I fix it? The quality of the sound from the XVCD is great though, but lower in pitch ever so slightly but definitely noticeable.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  2. the sound is usually lowered because the bitrate and cycles per second are reduced during conversion.

since you're using tmpgenc then you can increase the audio through the advanced tab properties.

  3. Thanks for the reply dancoe.

What should the proper TMPGEnc Audio settings be? Currently it's set to: 44,100 Hz, Stereo, 224 kbits/sec

    Any suggestions?

  4. 44,100 Hz and 224 kbits/sec is the standard for vcd. what i was suggesting to do in tmpgenc is go to the settings tab, then click on advanced, then double click on audio effect, check the change volume box, increase the volume from 100% to what ever you desire.
    then encode.

  5. Actually, low VOLUME is not my problem at all...

It's that the voices are lower PITCH than normal...

    Any ideas?

  6. the only way i know to increase the high end (pitch) is to increase kbits/sec
