  1. Wondering if there are sotware that does this. I have TMPGEnc and notice when it is encoding it shows the frame of the MPEG. Is there a way to get say frame #5500 or whatever frame I need to save as a BMP or JPEG or whatever so I can use it as a backround image? Thanks.

I use Virtual Dub to capture frames. I load the video, use the slider to find the scene I want the image to come from. Use the double arrows to move back one frame.

Mark the end of the scene you want cut. Move to beginning of the video, Mark the beginning of the scene you want cut. Press Delete. This cuts the beginning part of your video. Next, use the double arrows again to move one frame past the frame you want captured. Mark the beginning of the scene you want cut.

Move to the end of the video, Mark the end of the scene you want cut. Press delete again. What is left is only the frame you want. Select
File-->Save image sequence. When the requester pops up, name the file. The next requester asks what kind of format you want. Select it, and save. Your favorite frame is now an image.

  3. Thanks I was trying to get some decent screen shots and it always looked crappy. This way while cumbersome at least provides a picture as good as the actual video.

What you can also do is when you get to the frame that you want to grab, click Video>Copy source frame to clipboard, then open your favorite graphics editing software and choose Edit>Paste and there you have it...
