  1. Hi

i recently filmed a music concert with two digital camcorders running simulataneously from different points, one near the stage and one further back in a static position on a tripod.

Rather than just edit the two films, is it possible to create a S(VCD) disc which will allow the user to switch between the two views at will ?

I also recorded the sound straight from the sound desk onto Minidisc, so would possibly use that as the soundtrack (or mix it in with the ambient sound track on the miniDV tapes, not sure)

Any pointers appreciated, i thought i'd gather some opinion on this before wasting time just messing about.
    thanks in advance,
    Alan

  2. hello again

wow, no replies after a few days, that's unusual.

So, i'm wondering - is my question too basic that nobody can be bothered to reply, OR is it the case that nobody knows? ?
    i doubt it somehow.

    Yes or NO -
is it possible to create a multiangle (S)VCD, using 2 seperate video sources (with a shared audio track) so that the viewer can switch between the 2 different views at will ?

    thanks a lot

  4. That's nasty.....

But, to answer your question. (S)VCD does not support multiple angles in one video stream. You can use multiple audio streams though....

  5. There ARE a couple options. You could make a menu with two, large, moving selections and the sound track. I'm not sure how large you can go, but that is one possibility.

Another is a menu with one moving selection and a movie for a backround, with the sound track. This would give a PIP effect.

I don't think you can link the time sequence of the moving menu clip to the actual full-screen clip, but you could make several menus linking to each other, with say 30-second clips pointing to appropriate chapters.

TSCV will do most if not all of the above.

The PIP effect could be done in a Video Editor, also, but it wouldn't be selectable.

  6. thanks for those useful suggestions, much appreciated.

Whilst looking around, i discovered something called Impression DVD PRO by Pinnacle. This claims to allow for the creation of true multi-angle dvd, and, more to the point, mini DVD which can be burned to ordinary CDR, can it not?
    i don't have a DVD writer (yet?)

would this be a reasonable solution ?
or would it only allow for a disc of around 10 minutes in duration?

has anyone here tried this sort of thing before ?

thanks again, all your help is really gratefully received.

  7. VERY FEW players will handle Mini-DVD, though the PC will. AND, the time will be about 10-15 minutes.

The amount of playtime you fit per cd depends entirely on your bitrate. The dvd standard allows low bitrate encoding, so you could make a mini-dvd that fit 60 mins per disk if you want, of course the quality will be comparable to a SVCD at best.

As stated before, very few dvd players support mini-dvd.
