  1. hello,

I have several movies in divx 3 & 4 that have a video bitrate of 810 and 815 with very high resolution. I have encodes my files at a bitrate of 1800 kbs with 352x240 res, and the video looks good. I can play my vcd in my apex dvd player and they look better than my captured vids. my question is, is there a max on how much you can convert the bitrate from divx to mpeg? Meaning only 2 times the amount of the original divx file or try to stay around the 1150 bps of the standard? Like I said my videos look very good, but am I destroying the video background by over conveting?

I am also looking at purchasing a Pinnacle Bungee from tigerdirect.com for $180.00. Is the pinnacle as good as the dazzle dv bridge with the firewire card?

any help would be appreciated, thank you for your time.

  2. The bitrate can of course be increased but anything above 1150 for mpeg1 will make the file non-standard and not usable on many DVD players.

The standards for VCD and SVCD (which you may want to consider) are available from this site (top left hand nav bar).

Creating files outside these standards will not affect PC playback but can be problematic for mst DVD players.

If you want to maintain playback on your DVD player I would suggest conversion to SVCD standard. There are numerous guides available for this process on both this site and doom9's site.
