Hi guys,
I'm really having a difficult time editing my captured video. I am capturing using Virtualdub. Using this settings:
Format: ATIVCR2 (I have an ati card so the codec is on my machine)
Compression: (it doesn't give me an option to compress vcr2)
Audio (PCM/44/16/S)
352x480
Using that format I have been able to capture AWESOME avi's. Not too big either 37 minutes was about 3.1GB. I then use TMPGenc to convert this capture into a vcd format...I burn it, and voila..the first vcd's I've ever made that actually look as good as vhs! No Pixels to be seen at all!
My problem has been that I want to edit the capture before I burn it. I want to add some titles, background music...stuff like that. Unfortunately, for some reason Ulead media studio pro 6 is giving me a hard time rendering my new file. After I do all my edits and start rendering it...UMSP6 will get about 50-60% done then freeze up. I am aware of the 3.99 GB file size limit, but I'm not getting anywhere near that. it will still even if I'm rendering a tiny 5mb file. It will do this regardless of what format I want it to OUTPUT the new file in. The problem is the input, not the output. However, if I use a file that was captured in something other than ativcr2 or ativcr1 it will produce the file just fine, but of course, the quality is not the same. I see lots of pixels in the new file.
What I'm trying to figure out is whether or not UMSP6 can handle these ativcr2 files...it renders it...at least until it gets to 50-60%. Is it that I am doing something wrong? Is it possible for me to replicate the capture setting for vcr2 in virtualdub in a way that UMSP6 will accept it?
If anyone knows anything about this, please let me know. Here are some of my specs, If I leave anything out please let me know.
Athlon 750

256k ram

Did you ask Ulead Tech Support?
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin' -
Yes, I did call them. 2 times. We went through the usual checking of all the settings. He had me download and install a patch which didn't help. We went through the uninstall/re-install routine...he had me check some registry entries for conflicting stuff, but nothing worked. I did ask them point blank if it can handle this format and they said that it's just an avi. Since I have the codec on my machine, it should work fine. He then suggested that there may be something wrong with my machine...which isn't likely since every other thing I run on here works fine.
I was just as frustrated when I hung up. -
Use initialize wizard in MMC and setup captures for mpeg or avi or better
yet reinstall MMC and choose"custom" and uncheck"Media Library" it's
a useless program anyway.
But in the mean time, in MMC Media Library right click your .vcr file and
select convert to mpeg-2. -
What version of MMC do I need? I don't have the newest one..(7.1?) I still have 6.3 i think...it's an older version. I couldn't upgrade to the newer MMC because it kept crashing my system and the tv would never work.
Also, what will doing what you recommend do? Does this make a VCR2 file that Ulead media Studio will be able to work with or is this a way to get comprable avi? One reason I stopped capturing my video with the ati tv tuner in MMC is that I had alot of frames dropped...I mean in excess of 50%, while in Virtualdub I have almost no frames lost.
