When converting files in Nero, it takes hours and on one occasion a day and a half to convert from avi. to mpeg. Is this typical or is there something that I am not doing right? I appreciate any suggestions that may speed this up.

MPEG encoding very cpu intensive job, there are 2 way to speed up :-
    1. Lower the bitrate and video quality
    2. Upgrade your cpu

  4. One piece of advise DO NOT USE NERO TO ENCODE. Use tmpgenc to encode your mpeg, then use nero to burn. Nero is a good burning application, but a lousy encoder.
