  1. I just finished ripping my first one using the newbies guide, and it works fine except that the quality is okay when there is little or no motion on the screen but when there is alot of movement on the screen the vcd clouds up and you can see little blurry boxes around the areas of movement, and also in the parts of the picture where alot of area is of one solid color. Is there something i did wrong here, or is this to be expected? Or maybe my dvd player just sucks? I know there must be something i am doing wrong.

    thanks

  2. What encoder are you using? If you are using TMPGEnc (which you should) change the Motion Search to Highest Quality. Also remember VCD is on par with VHS, you will get pixels during high moving scenes alot of the time. Changing the Motion Search will give you less, but it will still be there. It's just the way of the format.

I think what "wheelman" is seeing is macroblocking and it has more to do with low bitrate than anything else. If your DVD player can handle the higher bitrate then increaseing bitrate is the solution. I make VCD's in 2-passVBR at 2250 average and 3500 maximum and there isn't a trace of macroblocking. You can make a short test to see if your DVD player can handle the higher bitrate.

  5. @Wheelman

Setting, then it's the last option at the bottom.
