Just wondering if anyone has tried this method? All you do is take your SVCD MPG and run it through TMPGEnc using a simple Multiplex. This method will allow you to play a SVCD on DvD players that normally don't support this format.

  2. Well, I tried this last night, and I managed to create a VCD that was properly identified by my Sony DvD player as a VCD, but all I got were blotches of green and no motion at all on the screen. So I guess it does not work on my Sony player.

  3. I tried it, and it does work, but I experienced some quality loss.
But it did play just fine. Did you multiplex and also burn as a VCD?

Executioner, what it sounds like your player is doing is just playing the SVCD as if it were a VCD, which is not exactly the intended result here. (The same thing happens if you open the VCD-multiplexed MPG with Windows Media Player - video replaced by green blocks, audio okay).

I don't think there's really any way to get your particular player to play SVCDs if the header trick doesn't work. There are other tricks, but if the header trick doesn't work, then there's no point in trying them. Sorry I can't help you.

  5. Yeah, I followed the instructions provided in the link in my first post. I then burned it using VCDEasy as a VCD. I know I did it correctly because my Sony player identified the CD as a VCD. It simply won't play on my old Sony. Oh well...
