I used to use this program called ASF recorder, which allowed you to DL asx files to avi files. However, the site where most of this DLing takes place doesnt allow the files to be DLed using ASFRecorder. I tried opening the file and checking the properties for the URL of the asf file itself, but all I get is the link to the .asx extension.
Anyone know of a program that allows you to DL asx files directly as AVI files?
thx

Nope. Sometimes you can open the asx and get the name o the asf file but a good site will keep referring you to the asx.
Run the file in your browser. Then look in your temporary internet folder for the asf.
If you get the asf file then convert to avi using convert tools at left.Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin' -
I also have this problem. I have asx-files that play in Media Player with my license file installed. I can download the asx file to my computer but I cannot convert it to any format that will able me to watch the media on computers where I don't have the license installed. When running it in my browser all I get is a asx file in my temporary files.
Can anyone give me a solution to this problem or is it simply impossible to convert the file? -

yes, I use AsfRecorder too.. great little program, but I dont think it converts asf to avi.. I assume that what you meant to say is that it allows you to save streaming content (asf, wmv) to your own machine and play it whenever you want, just like an avi video file.
yes, there is a way to download and save those streaming media files to your machine.. AsfRecorder works great for most sites, but fails to work with properly protected streaming content (as the AR author states in his docs, somewhere).. the way around this is to use a program called Windows Media Recorder (WMR). WMR is freeware and is here: http://www.netfor2.com/copy41.html
WMR is not the easiest program to learn to use.. it took me a little while to catch on, but once you understand how to use it, it works pretty great! I have yet to find a streaming WindowsMedia file that it will not allow me to make a local copy of.
Mr_PeA-
WMR _might_ allow you to make copies of those media files that require a license and make them playable anywhere, *maybe*.. try using the feature of WMR that allows you to send a local media file thru the local proxy. I have never had a reason to try this so I'm not certain it will work, but it's worth a shot. good luck, and let us know if it works.
