  1. ok i read about 5 guides today on how to do this and got no where!

my dvd i want to back up is 7.5GB i used smart ripper to rip all the files to the hard drive using the backup button. Then i found out what all the vob files where as well as there IDs and call IDs. Then i used IFO edit with the tutorial on this site, i got no where with that. Plus i dont have that much space to create the files.

so i downloaded dvd decrypter ripped all the files to the hard drive with that and it came out at 4.98GB which is too big,

all i wanna know is if i rip all the files from the dvd to my hard drive and rip out all the extras like commintry etc (just delete the vob files that contain this) and get it down to 4.6GB (which i can) can i just burn that back to the disk then?? or do i need to edit the IFO's?

thanks btw im a n00b to this.

You will need to edit the main ts ifo file.

I would use dvddecrytor to rip the vobs off of the dvd. Then use ifoedit to strip the main video vobs and to write the new ifo files.

Check out the doom9.org guides on how to do dvd-9 -> dvd-5.

Gee... I never would have guessed!

Use IFOEdit to strip all the streams that you don't want and everything should be okay. Once you are done, select all the remaining files, then right-click on them to let Windows tell you how large your compilation is. If less than 4,700,000,000 bytes, then you are probably home free.

But before you burn them, run them in PowerDVD to see if it runs okay (cheap insurance against expensive coasters). Burn them with NERO - if there are problems, this program will tell you (more cheap insurance).

would'nt the best form of insurance be to burn to dvd-rw first to make sure the disc works? if it plays then you can burn to a dvd-r.

  5. Ok i have 4 main IFO file

    VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VTS_01_0.IFO
    VTS_02_0.IFO
    VTS_03_0.IFO

I wanna rip out the extra features which are in these vob files..
    VTS_02_1.VOB
    VTS_01_0.VOB
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_03_1.VOB
    VTS_03_2.VOB

can i just delete these files out of the directory? If not and i have to use ifoedit...

how do i go about doing this with ifoedit? do i open each IFO file to go with the VOB file and strip them out? could u tell me the setting i need.
do i press menu extras or VOB extras in ifoedit. then once pressed what setting do i need? and once striped does IFO edit create a new vob file? i should be ok with the rest if not i will certainly be back.

    thanks alot

  6. in my limited experience it is almost impossible to rip everything out to make it fit on one disc. I did it to silence of the lambs and was 3 megs too big and it wouldt burn. that is just my observation, from now on iam just gonna drop the bitrate

But where is the main movie? And how big is it? I suggest that you stop trying to burn anything right now, and instead try to learn something about what you are doing. Re-read those 5 guides again. If you don't understand them, read them again... then again. Until you understand the basics, how do you ever expect to be able to do this correctly?

Open up IDOEdit and start exploring the in's and out's of a DVD. See what you can learn from its structure and files. What you want to do CAN be done, and no, you just can't delete the unwanted video title sets (and have a complient DVD).

Do I sound harsh? Sorry. But this is like giving a kid who has never driven a Formula 1 car and telling him to "have at it".
