I've captured a video stream off of VHS and I want to convert it into DVD format (Mpeg2, AC3 audio at 352x480.) Unfortunately, the stream mixes interlaced video with telecined video. How in the heck am I supposed to remove the combing in the stream and still get smooth motion? I could make multiple video files and filter each one but that is extremely time consuming. Also I could just resize the stream to 352x240 (rather than working with it at 352x480) but that wrecks the video quality.

Does anyone have any ideas on ways I can tackle this problem.

    Thanks for any help.

As the DVD standard supports interlaced video, why do you need to remove it? :P

Ok, this is going to be a dumb question (and it's something that I haven't tried) but can I just take telecined video and, in Tmpeg, say that its interlaced? Will it output ok? I thought the video stream had to either be 100% interlaced or 100% progressive but not both.
