  1. Help??

I need to get rid of some files off my Hard Drive, but Having Spiderman DVD DiVX, how would I go to converting it to Mpeg (VCD) I used TmpGenic 2.57.41.416 and the conversion works, but the only thing that doesnt work is the audio. The movies plays after it converting, but then the audio doesnt play. Can anyone help me out here? Explain why?

    Thanks!!

Make sure you have the audio codec's, Install the Nimo codec pack
    http://nimo.everwicked.com/ http://perso.wanadoo.fr/nimo/

    In TMPGEnc
    Select options > environmental settings
    click the VFAPI plug-in tab
right click the "DirectShow" and select higher priority, do this several times until its at the top with a value of 4

If you still got problems you may need to separate the audio using vdub, if that audio is AC3, then you may also need "Vdub AC3"

    http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/virtualdub.html

    Audio > Full processing mode
    Audio > conversion > 44.1 KHz
    SAVE WAV

Now use that in TMPGEnc instead of the AVI audio

  4. I'm having the same problem - and I've followed the instructions already posted - any other ideas? Are you supposed to be able to hear sound in the preview window in tmpge?

    No

Just hit start and stop after a 1 min or so

  6. In converting the divx file it wound up being over a gig in size, but I'm under the impression that a 60 minute video should fit onto a 650 meg disc. Is there something in the conversion that I'm not doing to reduce the overall size of the finished product or is there an additional step that should be done in the burning process?

Now that you have converted it, you need to go back into TMPGEnc >File > Mpeg tools

And go to Merge & Cut

    Add your movie, then click edit to select half of the movie, then select MPEG 1 Video CD from list { }

Split the file into 2, for 2 disks

  8. Thanks KingJohn - but can a 60 minute video fit on a 650 meg disc despite the fact that the file is well over that size? Some posts here suggest it can and when you open a program like vcd easy it claims that this possible.

if you are making vcd or svcd you can fit near 740 on a 74 min cd.

Hi, look on the disk box it gives you the size in MB for data files, but it gives you the time for music disks. The 650 MB disks are 74 Minutes, most people these days use the 80 minuet disks (700Mb) and using it with mode 2 VCD means you can get a little more on it, around 705Mb

So yes if its a fully compliant mpeg 1, then it will fit, BUT if its not compliant and its smaller, then when the authoring program gets hold of it, it may convert what ever is wrong, and in doing so could increase the size.

Gotcha but (there's always a but...)
What if you are making a mpeg 2 svcd AND how can I ensure that the file is compliant?

By the way - thanks for all your help thus far

Normally when you drop a MPEG 2 into an authoring program like Nero, VP5 etc, if there is anything wrong, it will pop up a warning telling you what it has found. It may list the bit rate as being "2520kbps" but the files is "1020kbps this will tell you immediately there is a problem. Then you need to re-encode in TMPGEnc using a SVCD template.

I don't have this problem, as I never make SVCD's !!, VCD is good anyway.. I have heard people make SVCD's out of CAM movies or convert VCD to SVCD and so on... No point !!
