  1. When I try to convert an avi(divx) file into VCD with TMPGEnc, after about 2-11 minutes into the conversion I always get an error message.
Does anyone know what might be causing these errors?
When I play the small Mpeg file that was the result of the few minutes of conversion, the image is a bit 'choppy' and the sound output is too fast.

Are there any other, more reliable and faster VCD converters out there?
(In case I can't fix the TMPGEnc problem).

You skipped Vdub, so you don't know what your dealing with.

Load the AVI into Vdub, see if it says anything when you first load it.

Scan for junk frames and save another copy out using video/audio > direct stream copy, if it finds any.

You may need to separate the audio, before you move on to TMPGEnc

VDub as in VirtualDub. You can find it at http://www.virtualdub.org
You can use this to scan for bad frames and repair if necessary.

  5. I apologise if I sound annoying but...how do I scan for bad frames?
(not that I even know why I should be doing that...I know close to nothing about these things, I just want my AVI's in VCD format).

Ok well you would have trouble with the new Vdub anyway..

    http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/virtualdub.html
    Download "vdub-mp3-freeze.exe"

Then use Video > check video for freezes
It make a log of them at c:\badframes.log which you can use to delete the junk frames, see my other pots for more info

  7. Um, I thought this was the newbie section...
    Anyways:

I still have no idea to what I am supposed to do here. Just randomly click an icon and hope it searches for errors?
This mp3 version of Vdub also looks like the original...

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured out how to use it...
It says "no bad frames found". Now what?
I tried using TMPGEnc again with different avi's - same problem.
When I first ran Vdub, I got this strange message about having some programs installed (Divx 3.2 and two others), that might ineterfere with Vdub. This isnt true, since I have Divx 5 installed.

  8. One other thing: I used the "System audio only" and "Audio only" options with TMPGEnc, and it worked. However, the mp2 and mpeg files that were generated...sucked. They "skip", and there is alot of noise in the background.

Vdub will complain about "hacked codec's" ignore the warning.

"Just randomly click an icon "

Why would you do that, can't you see what each one says, have you read its help file ? visited the site ?
