  1. i am having problems capturing a good quality. I have a db boeder tv/fm capture card (BT 878/879 Capture chip).
I want to capture from this card to give a good quality image, prefer full screen, but if I attempt to capture at full screen the computer locks up. Even at half screen size the capture quality is poor. Also how do I check the write speed of my hard drive, ie if it will substain 4mb per second?

    thanks

  2. simple...

use virtualdub for capturing....any res is possible is drivers support it.

If they don;t use generic WDM drivers for bt8x8 chipset.

Just capture and see if you have frameloss... if you do.. increase compression or buy a faster computer c.q. hdd.

Even most 5400 dma hdd's should be able to sustain the tranferrate if not too fragmented and little compression. If you use HUFFYUV with low compression, you need a lot of speed and space..and at least a 7200 rpm drive.

Anyhow...Virtualdub is the solution to most problems...maybe different drivers...and a lot of trial and error.

  3. I have found to get excellent quality cature with Virtualdub. The resolution and bit rate are your decision. Capture it in a lossless codec like Huffyuv or Pic Video (The file will be massive, around 2GB for around 6 minutes) and then use TMPGenc and run some slight noise filters and encode to an MPEG for viewing. Shoule be very clear.

I have found using this method on a 352x240 video you can view at full screen and have very little distortion.
Not only am I perfect but I'm Canadian too!

  4. oh yeah...

don't forget to deselct preview and overlay...you won't see anything then, but otherwise you cannot capture at full res.
