    What is the best MPEG-2 encoder. I want to buy one but not sure which one. I'd appreciate your thoughts on this matter.

    quite simple...

    For MPEG II use TMPGenc (it's free)
    or for best use CCE..is't expensive...see

    i would go for TMPGenc ahead CCE. CCE is not very user friendly and bug ridden. TMPGenc however, always gets the job done.
