Probable cause is that the VCD's not looking good has a lower bitrate than VCD standard, and/or uses a lower resolution. Most DVD players handles non standard VCD's.

May be your player only supports full standard discs.
Or your VCD is made of an bad avi file. -
maybe the vcd's were burnt at a high speed. some dvd players have trouble with discs burnt at high speeds.

i burned it at 1x and it didn't work and what do you mean by standard discs? the asian vcds? if so, then no, thats not it cause some of my vcd's work and others wont.

The developer of VCD´s and SVCD ( mpeg1, 2) defined standards for VCDs/SVCDs ( 352 * 288 Pixel for VCD Pal ). Some DVD Players only work stable when the VCD is burned in this standards. The same is valid for SVCD ( 576 * 480 Pixels ).
Try to play it with your Computer VCD- Player.
When its not playable the theres an error in the file. -

BTW. (width x height)
VCD: PAL ( 352 x 288 ), NTSC (352 x 240 )
SVCD: PAL ( 480 x 576 ), NTSC ( 480 x 480 )
