I am having a problem with the conversion of a *.avi file. I have been able to convert the file into a *.mpg without any problem, but when I play the newly converted *.mpg file it seems to play fine for about 5 minutes and then the audio cuts out. Why does the converted file lose its audio and what do I have to do to ensure that it stays with the video? I have tried using just the *.avi file for the Video and Audio selections (using TMPGEnc) and the audio cuts out after 5 minutes. I have also tried using Virtual Dub to get a seperate audio file to convert with and I get the same result.
Any Input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You.

If you extract the audio using full-processing mode, check there is sound in the extracted wav throughout, and use TMPG to create the mpeg, the sound will certainly be there. If you have done all that, suspect your playback hardware.
The usual reasons for what you experienced are not extracting the wav first, or extracting the wav using Direct Stream Copy! -
Have tried that. I get the following error "ACM reported error on audio decompress (200) "
What do I have to do in order to get the audio to extract properly under the full-processing mode? -
From the error message it is quite possible you have an avi with ac3 audio. In which case take a look at the guide for converting an avi with ac3 sound.

When you said you tried that, did you do any conversion or save it out as it is ?
Audio > Full processing mode
Audio > Compression > PCM (Default)
Audio > Conversion > 44.1Khz
SAVE WAV
It is also possible you don't have the correct audio codec's, Install the Nimo codec pack to make sure you do, this also includes the AC3 codec, You can also use "Vdub AC3"
http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/virtualdub.html
or Kazza
In TMPGEnc you should also check this
Select options > environmental settings
click the VFAPI plug-in tab
right click the "DirectShow" and select higher priority, do this several times until its at the top with a value of 4
But before you do anything, load the Nimo codec pack, then scan for junk frames using Vdub, the cut out could be at a junk frame -
If there are "Junk Frames" detected is there a way to repair them? How would I go about doing that?

Ok....Gave That a try.....and it is giving me more error messages....... "Internal Error: MMX state left on T:\projects\VirtualDub_old\main\VideoSource.cpp:11 01" whatever that means. Is there something else I can try or should I just try and find a different file?

Meanwhile you can use old faithful "vdub-mp3-freeze.exe"
http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/virtualdub.html
While your there you might as well download "Vdub AC3"
With vdub-mp3-freeze.exe
This makes a log of the bad frames at c:\badframes.log you can then use that list to delete the frames (At keyframes) starting with the highest blocks first
Video > check video for freezes
1234
1235
1236
13456 (Start delete this block first) (Click yellow keyframe back once before you mark)
13457
13458 (End) (Click the yellow keyframe forward once before you mark
When you have deleted them all
Video > direct stream copy
Audio > direct stream copy
SAVE AVI -

With all due respect to dgraham1977,I guessed from your earlier posts that you may be unfamiliar with using Virtualdub.
Not that I'm an expert by any means(far from it)but I did a step by step because I know what its like when getting started in the Video Editing/Encoding game.(some things can be a little intimidating).
So,although I bow to KingJohn's obvious superior knowledge,my lengthy explanation was intentional for dgraham's benefit.
So,in closing I doubt if he would have known how to mark in and out then push delete.
I think you would also agree that it is recommended that by marking in and out on key frames is preferable."Today is only yesterdays tomorrow" -

However I don't think with all the posts I have replied too (Until now) , has ever come back with, "How do I delete"I think posts like these will probably need more researching and eventually the person figures it out
In fact from the menu "Edit > delete selection" could be found "If the person bothers to look"
I think the basics should be posted only, and hope the rest would be figured out, until someone comes back with another post "OK what next" by this time I am ready to point them to the guides on this site
Good point, and in future I will include those other items
