    I want to use VirtualDub to edit some video and when I try to open an mpeg2 file it says: "VirtualDub Error, MPEG Import Filter: Pack synchronization error"

    The reason I want to open these is because I want to join multiple MPEG2 files into one long file. Can this be done?

    what am I doing wrong?

    oh yeah, when I try to open MPEG1 it works fine. WTF?

    Virtual Dub does not open MPEG-2 files. However TMPGEnc will help you out there, among other programs:

    thanks so much, I thought I was going nuts.

    In TMPEGEnc, the two MPEG2 settings in the drop-down list are both saying VBR in parentheses. Is this okay even if my video was recorded in CBR?
